Abstracts

  • The deadline for receipt of abstracts for the Undergraduate Student Poster Competition was midnight (EDT), Tuesday, April 18, 2006

  • Abstracts may be submitted for any symposium or general session listed in webHermes.
    Please follow instructions at http://www.csc2006.ca/prog-abstractsubmit_e.html
  • Abstracts from all accepted and scheduled presentations will be published on the web starting in April 2006; they will be printed in the conference general program in early May 2006.

Presentations

The Conference schedule will be finalized by mid-April 2006.
Once the program is finalized, you will be informed by e-mail of the date, time and location of your presentation.
Your Abstract will look like this:

Abstract number Session number Presentation Time Session Room
Abstract Title
Presenters

Body of the abstract.

  • In some cases your paper might not be in the session you requested.   It is also possible that, although you requested an oral presentation, time and space requirements may have caused a change of your submission to a poster presentation.
  • If you have not received an e-mail by mid-April 2006 and/or your name and paper do not appear in the program, please contact program@csc2006.ca.

Length

  • Please check your e-mail and the schedule for the exact presentation time and length of your presentation.
  • Most papers are 20 minutes in length: 15 minutes of presentation and 5 minutes of questions.

Handouts

  • Any handouts are the responsibility of the presenter.
  • Please ensure that you have sufficient quantities of any handouts you wish to use.

Posters

  • There will be two posters on each side of the poster board.  Poster boards approximately 1.2 meters high by 2.4 meters wide will be available in the Exhibition area (Port Royal Room) for mounting posters on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 9:30 to 16:30; you must mount your posters on the day you will be presenting.   Remember that you will have only half that space for your poster, nominally a square 1.15 meters high by 1.15 meters wide.  The location of your board space is identified with the sequence number found in the general program or on this web site.  Your poster must be removed immediately after the end of the poster session in which you are presenting.
  • Two posters are assigned per board side. Presenters can only use the allotted space; they must not infringe on the adjacent poster(s).
  • Appropriate materials will be provided to allow you to attach your poster to the board.
  • Presenters are asked to be present during the period 17:00 - 19:00 hours on the day they are presenting (Sunday and Monday) or 16:40 - 18:40 on Tuesday to answer inquiries by visitors to their poster displays.
  • A cash bar wine/beer reception will be held in this area during the same time.
  • Posters must be installed on the appropriate day between 9:30 and 16:30. Posters must be taken down immediately after the end of the poster session in which you are presenting; posters not removed will not be saved.

Audio/Visual Equipment

  • Overhead projectors and LCD projectors will be provided in all rooms.  One 35-mm slide projector is available for the entire conference and must be booked in advance; please check the appropriate box on the webHermes submission site.
  • Presenters are free to use their own laptop for their presentation, but must ensure compatibility with the LCD projector prior to the start of their session.
  • The Conference will supply computers equipped with a CD-ROM drive and USB ports. Presenters are encouraged to bring their presentation on a CD or a USB flash drive or, to be really safe, on both.  The computer will be running Windows 2000 with MS Office XP for Power Point presentations.  No floppy drives will be available for use on these machines.
  • MS Media Player will be loaded on the machines; however, Presenters running '.avi' movies should check their presentation on a computer in the Speaker Ready Room to ensure there are no problems.  Problems have occurred in the past regarding running different international editions of the software.  Bringing the movie as a separate file is strongly recommended.
  • Acrobat Reader will also be installed but no other software will be available for Presenters to use on the supplied computers.  In the event that a presenter wishes to run other software, (s)he is asked to bring her/his own laptop to the presentation.
  • There will be a Speaker Ready Room with A/V equipment to preview your presentation.  Please check prior to the day of your session that your presentation works with the supplied system.

Backup

  • If you are using PowerPoint, we strongly recommend that you also bring it as a .pdf file (having made sure to embed all fonts); Acrobat Reader can run a slide show from a .pdf version of a PowerPoint presentation prepared on either a PC or a Mac.

Full Papers

  • The 89th Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition uses abstracts only.
  • Some symposia and session chairs may have made arrangements for papers to be published. Please contact your session chair for details.
  • Presenters are encouraged to submit manuscripts of their presentations to the Canadian Journal of Chemistry, and other periodicals that express interest in the topics discussed in the conference.
